About Drew
Drew Rooke is an Australian freelance journalist and non-fiction author. He is the author of One Last Spin: The Power and Peril of the Pokies (Scribe, 2018), a full-length investigation into how poker machines are designed, regulated and experienced by the people who use them, and of A Witness of Fact: The Peculiar Case of Chief Forensic Pathologist Colin Manock (Scribe, 2022), shortlisted for the 2022 Ned Kelly Award for Best True Crime. He was a Walkley Our Watch Fellow in 2021.
His journalism has appeared in The Monthly, The Saturday Paper, Kill Your Darlings, Overland, Griffith Review, Cosmos Magazine and The Conversation. For Royal Reels Online Casino Australia, he brings that same source-first approach to the regulatory and licensing side of the review, checking claims against ACMA documents, WHOIS records and an operator's own published terms rather than against other affiliate reviews.
Areas of focus
- Australian online gambling law and ACMA enforcement action against offshore operators
- Licensing structures, dispute resolution and how they differ between Curacao and Tier 1 regulators
